Alcatraz circa 1936

Aerial view south toward Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, and Russian Hill [Resembling huge battleship Alcatraz Island is known as 'the rock'. Discovered in 1775 by Lt. Manuel D. Ayala it was given the name Alcatraces meaning isle of the peilcans. Used as a disciplinarian barracks by the US Army it became a federal prison in 1934.]
